President Biden announced a preliminary agreement between his administration and semiconductor manufacturing company Micron in Syracuse, New York. The agreement would provide $6.1 billion in funding from the CHIPS and Science Act and $125 billion from Micron to build semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Upstate New York and near Micron headquarters in Idaho. The president says the preliminary agreement will create 70-thousand jobs across the two states. Prior to his remarks, the president participated in a presentation with Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) on plans for the planned semiconductor manufacturing facilities in New York.
"We've already conceded our commercial shipbuilding capabilities to the Chinese but we have not, by any means, actually conceded our naval power. Speaker Johnson decried instances of antisemitism against Jewish students, which he alleged were happening at Columbia and other universities. He and his Republican colleagues were booed by protesters throughout their remarks. The protests at Columbia began in the middle of April when protesters set up an encampment of dozens of tents and demanded the university divest from Israel amid the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Tim Walz (D), and Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb (D) were among many featured speakers at the 2024 North America's Building Trades Unions' conference in Washington, DC. They touted the Biden administration's pro-labor union stance and policy actions. They also touched on how trade jobs impact the economy and the building of infrastructure across America.

The president spoke on his strong support for unions as he highlighted the differences of his labor policy with that of former President Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican nominee for president. President Biden spoke on his policy achievements, such as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and touted improvements n the economy, infrastructure investment and job growth.
